ALSA OZAMIZ: OZAMIZNONS RISE AGAINST “EVERYTHING ILLEGAL” WITH ALL-OUT BACKING FROM THE CITY GOVERNMENT

From the ashes of its dirt-laden image, Ozamiz City is rising loud and proud with its latest crusade to crush bad elements in its territory.

16237357_120300001760933300_105935110_n

On Wednesday (January 18), an estimated 30,000 Ozamiznons marched to a public venue beside the town’ historic structure famously known as Cotta. There was a public outcry to cleanse the city and eliminate once and for all the filthy stigma that has been since associated to Ozamiz City.

On that evening, the city government has declared the what it’s called Alsa Ozamiz, a local movement to rally all Ozamiznons to shrug off all bad elements that has been corrupting and ravaging the once stellar status of the city.

As described by the incumbent Mayor Reynaldo “Aldong” Parojinog, Sr., Alsa Ozamiz bears the same ideals just like his grandfather’s first and original Alsa Ozamiz movement back in the 50s to fight government insurgencies… except that this time, the fight is not against rebels, but to a more profound cause — that is to fight all negative elements in the Ozamiznon society.

You name it, it’s on the list — from illegal gambling down to illegal fishing and the like, with illegal drugs on top of the list… the city government led by Mayor Aldong are all down to tap it off their city.

OZAMIZ CITY HALL CRIES FOUL AGAINST ALL THE DRUGS ALLEGATIONS

In a press conference held prior to the evening’s Alza Ozamiz event, the city’s father-daughter tandem composed of Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog, Sr. and Vice Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog vented out their sentiments about the latest accusations to them.

16244251_120300001759828951_598096618_n

Vice Mayor Parojinog cries foul on their critics’ claim that the city’s drugs situation is “rampant”. Vice Mayor Nova Princess said all these allegations are really unfair for all the drugs initiatives that they have implemented in the city long before DU30 came in to power.

“Dito sa Ozamiz City nuon pa man matagal na kaming nakipag-gyera sa ilegal na droga,” said Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog, Sr.

Mayor Parojinog, Sr. noted that they’ve been having this extensive fight against drugs however sadly, all these initiatives all went down the drain for nothing because apparently, their accomplishments just went under the radar of the then police chiefs for some unknown reasons.

On the press meeting, the Parojinogs presented a really thick book of the anti-drugs operations report that has been taking place since 2013, long before President Duterte’s massive national anti-drug campaign.
Vice Mayor Parojinog noted that the book contains all the reports on the drug raids, drugs suspects arrests and illegal drugs confiscations undertaken by the city hall with the PNP since 2013.

“Nuong kasagsagan ng campaign ko against drugs, madaming nagalit sa akin… kahit mga kamag anak ko,” added Mayor Aldong.

At one point the Mayor was teary-eyed as he said, “Taga-rito kami sa Ozamiz tapos sisirain namin ang lugar namin?”.

Just recently, Mayor Parojinog, Sr. had a meeting with President Duterte who also met other city and town mayors in Malacanang Palace last January 11.

Parojinog, Sr. described his meeting with Duterte in Manila as cordial, with the Chief Executive saying that the earlier pronouncement of Parojinog’s involvement in drugs was based on report from regional intelligence units.

“Mas lalo kaming maninindigan sa aming laban sa droga bilang suporta sa Pangulong Duterte na handang itaya ang buhay para sa bayan,” stated Mayor Aldong in front of the media team.

ON ALSA OZAMIZ BASHERS

Of course, being included on DU30’s narco-politician list (from which Mayor Aldong’s case is currently under revalidation) and having this aggressive campaign called “Alsa Ozamiz”, Mayor Aldong Parojinog’s detractors would definitely raise their eyebrows with the coincidence.

Additionally, there were social media buzz that Alsa Ozamiz is the Parojinog’s strategy to sack the newly-assigned city police chief Espinido.

However, the courageous mayor gleefully revealed that Alsa Ozamiz is actually a joint effort of the PNP and the city hall. In fact, during the Alsa Ozamiz gathering that night at the Cotta, although not present, the new city police chief had a long VTR message for all Ozamiznons that affirms his support on this anti-drugs initiatives by Mayor Aldong and VM Nova Princess (and the rest of the Ozamiz City Hall).

 ALSA OZAMIZ

Later that Wednesday evening Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog, Sr. led the formal launch of the ‘Alsa Ozamiz’ anti-crime program. ICMY, the Alsa Ozamiz program is an extensive program of the Ozamiz city hall that pushes civilian-barangay partnerships with government and non-government agencies to prevent “all that is illegal” in the city i.e. illegal drugs, gambling, fishing, logging, etc…

With illegal drugs on top of their list, the leading city officials stated that they have standby programs to support this city anti-drugs campaign. This includes the proposed private partnership with rehabs as part of the follow-up initiatives for “tokhang responders” and also the potent “reward system” when it comes to intelligence gathering, among others.

VIDEOKARERA MACHINES DESTROYED…

16176920_120300001751554841_1695880061_n

On the eve of the Alsa Ozamiz declaration and right after the press briefing, some 560 videokarera machines that were voluntarily surrendered to brgy captains were crushed altogether by a payloader right in front of the city hall grounds. These videokarera and fruitgame machines are allegedly being used habitually by drug addicts as a fond pastime most notably when they are high on drugs.

1 in 4 Wi-Fi Hotspots Just Waiting to Be Hacked, Kaspersky Lab Stats Show

After analyzing information on more than 31 million Wi-Fi hotspots around the world, Kaspersky Lab has found that every fourth (28%) is unsecured and poses a risk to users’ personal data. That means all the traffic transmitted over those networks, including personal messages, passwords, documents and much more, can be easily intercepted and used by attackers.

15349796_1835942806617322_8081366368237772353_n

According to Kaspersky Security Network , 25% of the world’s Wi-Fi networks have no encryption or password protection of any kind. In other words, the information they transmit is completely open and can be read by third parties.

Another 3% of hotspots use WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) to encrypt data. This unreliable protocol can be “cracked” within minutes using tools that are freely available on the Internet.

The rest of the nearly three-quarters of Wi-Fi hotspots use a more reliable form of encryption based on the family of Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) protocols.

The effort required to hack these networks depends on the settings, including the strength of the password. For instance, if it’s a weak or publicly accessible password (e.g., on display in a cafe), a criminal will also be able to decrypt any transmitted traffic.

It’s worth noting that the top 20 countries with the highest percentage of non-encrypted Wi-Fi hotspots includes many popular tourist destinations – Thailand, France, Israel, the US and so on. Travelers are among the most vulnerable because the nearest available Wi-Fi hotspot is often the only way for them to stay connected.

At the same time, another study suggests only 57% of Internet users are concerned about their data being intercepted during a Wi-Fi session.
“We advise all users to remain vigilant when connecting to Wi-Fi. Don’t use hotspots without passwords and don’t use public hotspots to perform high-risk activities such as online banking or shopping, logging on to sites or for transferring confidential information. If that sort of traffic is intercepted by a third party, it could result in serious losses, including financial losses. And of course, we strongly recommend using additional measures to protect traffic, such as VPN (Virtual Private Network)technology,” explains Denis Legezo, Antivirus Expert at Kaspersky Lab.

The flagship solutions Kaspersky Internet Security and Kaspersky Total Security now integrate the new Secure Connection feature that encrypts all data sent and received over a communication channel.

Depending on the user settings, Secure Connection can be run automatically when attempting to connect to an unsecured network, or when performing potentially vulnerable operations online.

Science Circus has come to town! Visit Mind Museum Now!

Mind Museum amazes me when my family and I paid our 1st visit last October 15, 2016. With all the informative  science creation my family especially the kiddos enjoyed it.

But wait there’s more! Step Right Up! because Mind Museum just added Science Circus as their latest traveling exhibition last October 28, 2016. Showcasing the amusing, the peculiar, and the extraordinary in our everyday experiences, in the form of interactive exhibits that deceive the senses and boggle the mind.

4. Automaton Circus performers_2.png

While the nearly 250-year history of the circus abounds with awe-inspiring demonstrations of physical skill- such as high- flying aerial artists, to death-defying daredevils – the Science Circus challenges our traditional notions of a circus by focusing on the mind’s “acrobatic” perceptual tricks.

2. Inside Science Circus.png

As the guests enter the exhibition, they are welcomed by a festive, colorful facade which sets the tone for the sights and sounds they are about to experience. These interactive exhibits are displayed simultaneously in three adjacent Rings. Guests can go in any of the Rings in the order they please.

Ring One, or Deception Perception is a menagerie of exhibits that will prompt you to question whether to see is to believe.

3-inside-science-circus-1

Can you always trust your senses? Is what you see as real as it seems? Can your brain produce motion where there is none? Your first venture into the Circus will unveil the “blindness” of your mind’s eye.

Ring Two highlights Pieces of Incredible Engineering, where guests can engage their minds in puzzles and relish how math and art come together. This central area is animated by simple machines, and engages guests in activities that evoke their inner engineer.

Ring Three is Encounters with the Masters, where guests can interact with and learn the secrets of the Masters of Illusion. They can take on the challenges posed by each Master, and discover how our brains can be ensnared by smoke and mirrors.

The Science Circus: Step Right Up! exhibition vividly illustrates how our everyday experiences are full of delightful secrets that we can uncover, to discover more about ourselves and the world around us.

Kathryn and Liza’s Kitchen Best friend

lizkatv1The kitchen used to be a scary place for young people and cooking was a daunting task reserved for mothers and household helps. But technology played a role in guiding people around the kitchen. Nowadays, new cooks search online for cooking videos or check out “food hacks” to be able to produce any dish they want that they can, in turn, show off on social media.

Young celebrities Kathryn Bernardo and Liza Soberano also enjoy cooking for their loved ones. They are the newest tandem to endorse AJI-NO-MOTO® Umami Seasoning. Apart from what can be found in the Internet, Kathryn and Liza became more confident cooks because they can rely on a brand of seasoning to make delicious home-cooked dishes by bringing out the natural goodness of food. Experienced cooks or kitchen newbies can make AJI-NO-MOTO® their best friend in the kitchen – an ally in serving nourishing and enjoyable dishes for the whole family.

The new AJI-NO-MOTO® TV Commercial features three (3) dishes to show the versatility of the product in making all kinds of dishes delicious. Among the dishes are the Omurice, a Japanese-inspired meal composed of rice and omelet, Kathryn’s Adobong Puti recipe, a different take on the classic adobo without soy sauce and the all-time favorite comfort food Beef Nilaga.

AJI-NO-MOTO® can be widely used in a variety of dishes because it has no smell or specific flavor of its own and can therefore be used to enhance the original flavor of food. This is a safe and quality product that is made from natural crops like sugar cane, corn or cassava and manufactured through the natural process of fermentation. AJI-NO-MOTO® enhances taste of food by providing umami taste. Umami is the fifth basic taste also described as rich, savory and ‘malinamnam’ derived from food rich in glutamate like tomatoes, cheese, mushrooms, ham and seafood.

Novuhair Supports Alopecia Areata Awareness in Celebrating Inner Strength

September marks the month-long commemoration of Alopecia Areata awareness worldwide. Alopecia areata is a condition when hair loss occur due to faults in the immune system attacking the hair follicles which results in partial or total loss of hair on the head and other parts of the body.

Leading this year’s celebration in the country is Alopecia Philippines, a group founded by singer and songwriter Abby Asistio in 2012. She has been championing the cause of empowering citizens with this condition.

Abby is no stranger to alopecia, having been diagnosed with alopecia areata since she was four years old. Abby’s decision to come out in public with her condition was a major turning point in her life.

On September 2012, Abby decided to start an online campaign in time with Alopecia Awareness Month by inviting family and friends to pose with the double “A” (inverted “V”) sign using their fingers on the photo sharing site, Instagram. It quickly caught on and Abby was overwhelmed by the response from netizens, with over a thousand photo contributions to date.abby-v-sign

This paved the way for the beginnings of Alopecia Philippines. It aims to raise awareness about alopecia and correct common misconceptions and perceptions about it, provide encouragement to people afflicted with it, and create an online support community for them.

Inspired by Abby’s honesty and courage, men and women, kids and teens from different walks of life began sharing their own stories and struggles living with alopecia. What started out as a group of ten is now more than 300 members strong and its Facebook page – Alopecia Areata Awareness, draws followers from all over the world.

Novuhair has been supporting the cause for Alopecia Philippines through Abby Asistio. Abby have been using the brand continuously since March 2013 and she has only praises to share using the product.

Mommy Milkshare Event Set to Benefit Fabella Milk Bank :)

The statement “Breastfeeding is best for babies” is seen everywhere in the hospital when I gave birth with our little master Jayden Marcus last December of 2013

Our Little Master Jayden Marcus 🙂

It’s a well-known fact that breastfeeding is best for babies. The World Health Organization states why it is so on their website, and also emphasizes that breastfeeding benefits the mothers who choose to breastfeed their babies.

As a 1st time mom, I don’t have the huge ideas on the benefits of breastfeeding and thanks to my OB Gyne Dra. So for sharing some facts about it.She encourages me to breastfeed my baby and continously educates me on  proper way to breastfeed.

The reality is, though, that some mothers might not be able to breastfeed their children immediately after birth for legitimate medical reasons. Like the one I experienced. Our little master needs to be in NICU for a couple of days due to breathing problems.

I was advised to pump milk because I can’t directly feed him yet. First day of pumping milk is a bit frustrating. I pump for hours but i only got few.

My 1st drops of breastmilk 🙂

But this don’t stop me from pumping more milk for our little master. Day by day my milk supply increases from .25 oz to .5 until i reaches 2 oz on the 3rd day.

Due to low milk supply, NICU nurses told me that our little master needs more milk and my stash is not enough for him. I was on a panic because I don’t want to give him a formula milk. Tried electric breast pump but it’s still the same.

I went to NICU to check how many ml of breast milk should i need to produce for a day for our little master. To my surprise, She told me that our  OB Gyne Dra. So just donated stash of milk. 🙂 (She is currently breasfeeeding his 2yo baby that time)

In cases like these, milk donations or milksharing are usually the solution. It should be noted, though, that donor milk should be screened as much as possible, to ensure that it is safe and clean for the babies who will receive it.

If you’re a breastfeeding mom, or a mom who believes in the importance of breastfeeding, you will probably also consider milksharing or donating one’s breastmilk to be a noble endeavor. Here in the Philippines, human milk banks are actually always in need of breastmilk donations, so it is good to be aware of efforts to collect human milk – like the upcoming “Mommy Milkshare” event organized by The Parenting Emporium and Honeysuckle Philippines (which is actually on its second run; the first run was held in September last year.)

Scheduled for August 13, 2016 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Parenting Emporium (No. 29, 1st Street, New Manila, QC), breastfeeding mothers are invited to donate their excess breastmilk for the benefit of Fabella Human Milk Bank. Donors can choose to bring frozen breastmilk (must be expressed between June to August 2016) or express milk onsite.

In gratitude to the generous milk donors, VPharma’s Mega Malunggay, Mommy Treats, and Honeysuckle – brands that support milksharing – will be giving discounts on select items. Mommy Milkshare participants will also receive loot bags as a “bonus” for their kindness, which is why they are also asked to register for the event via 0917-8110821.

So, if you are a breastfeeding mom who wants to share her “milky blessings,” head on over to The Parenting Emporium this Saturday! Your efforts and kindness will help many babies who are supported by Fabella Human Milk Bank.

Note: If you want to donate breastmilk but can’t come to Mommy Milkshare, you may contact Nurse Katrina of The Parenting Emporium at 7253723 or 7386272, and ask how to donate to the TPE Milksharing Hub.
